Ok, designing my web page with absolutely everything to do with it totally up to me is not as fun as it sounds. For a start all the really cool effects, like elastic thumbnail menus or CSS animated poster circles are way too advanced for a first time doer. Not to mention that after staring at my stuff for the last two years all I can see is the bits that should be fixed up, or the fact that none of it is really good enough to put on the internet for everybody to see anyway. Then I have the daunting task of settling on a ‘style’ to call my own – I know very well that I will have to live with that style until I redo it, and the way I am I’ll probably get tired of it before the end of the year… It was only a matter of months ago that I was working on my business cards, letterheads etc, (in older blogs you will see them) I’m already ready to redesign them – hmm, wish I could create something I would like forever. Looking at the life of Jonathan Hoefler it makes me feel that if I had only half his dedication, skill and talent I would be satisfied with my life. He has led an incredible life and such a short one as well, not that it is over something tells me that the best is yet to come.
Some of the magazines he has designed original typefaces for are Harper’s Bazaar, Rolling Stone, Sports Illustrated, Esquire and the list goes on and on. I love magazines, they are little packages of nice smelling art which we can take home to do with what pleases us, I have always treasured every magazine I have owned and dreamed of working on one. But to design the Typeface for a magazine… that’s just incredible. Read the rest of this entry »
